Final Audience Feedback

In this post, I will presenting the final audience feedback we got for our music video. It is essential to get feedback so that we know if our audience liked our video and to find out what we did well and what we can improve on.

Final Audience Feedback from Thenz801

This is another feedback we got from YouTube. As of date, there are 93 Views, 4 likes and 1 dislikes. This shows that our music video is well-received by the audience, which we also proved in the feedback we got from the survey. However, the one 1 dislike shows that our music video is open for improvement which we also considered when we got the results from the survey.

Album Digipak

I have created a digipak for my album METANOIA. The main colour scheme is black, red and white and this is to fit the given genre which is indie rock/rock. It also adheres to the theme and the music video we created which is about vampire and dark themes.
METANOIA means "change" which relates to the transformation of the artists. It also links to the narrative of the music video in which the main character transforms from a human to a vampire.

Album Digipak Process

In this post, I will be discussing the processes to create the digipak.
Media Used: Adobe Photoshop CS6

Firstly, I took the template and created another layer to create a CD Art. I also added a gray background to make a neutral base for my digipak.

For the first photo, which will be in the CD background, I created the same effects I did for the album advert. This is to relate both the advert and digipak together.
The next block is a band image. I put everything in low key lighting and inserted a Gothic background, and blended the two photos together.

In this photo, I took the font which had the highest vote from my previous poll and added some effects to it such as Drop Shadows and Colour Overlay. I also added this rose icon which was inspired by the TV Programme "Vampire Knight".

I also added the spine and some gradient for both the artist and album title.

I added the poster image to create the link between the advert and digipak and maintain coherence. I also added the list of songs which is an important convention for a digipak.

Lastly, I edited the CD Art and inserted the list of songs to the ellipsis of the CD. The circle is inspired by the TV Programme "Full Metal Alchemist" and how this human transmutation circle helped the main characters change which relates to the album title "Metanoia" which means change.

Album Advert

In this post, I will be presenting my band's album advert. I have followed my layout and shown the typical conventions of an album advert. I also used a low key lighting so that it can fit to the indie rock/rock genre of the artist. Also, the low key lighting reflects the album's number 1 hit single "Monster" which has a dark and fantasy theme.

Photoshop Tutorials

These are the Photoshop tutorial I found on YouTube to create the demon/ Tokyo Ghoul Eyes and make the theme more effective and enticing for the audience.

Album Advert Process

In this post, I will be discussing the processes to create the album advert.
Media Used: Adobe Photoshop CS6

Firstly, I used the Paint Bucket Tool and filled in a black background. I then used a Filter > Render > Lens Flare.

I opened an image of David, our drummer and changed the Brightness & Contrast, and the Hue & Saturation of the image.

I then added a new layer with a layer mask to create the black filling on one eye area. I also added a layer mask > Solid Color > then selected the colour red to create the red eye effect. I was trying to replicate a very popular look which was popularised by the TV Show - Tokyo Ghoul.

I also used this effect on the images we took of Riordan (guitarist) and Kawsar (vocalist).

I then added these image on the black background with the lens flares as an effect.

I then duplicated the layers to create a "sinister" tone to the advert. Then I added both the logo design for the artist name and album name.
The also added an effect to these logos - Blending Options > Color Overlay; Blending Options > Drop Shadow

Then I added some details such as the album cover, featured song, release date, record company logo and artist website.

I then added small icons to show where the album will be released - iTunes, Spotify and HMV.

Band Photo Shoot

We have taken images of the band for the album advert and digipak. The images we took adhered to the given genre of the music - indie rock/rock and the band has grungy and emo style just like My Chemical Romance and Green Day.
The shots were inspired by the band photos of Green Day as the band has three members just like our band and the genre is also similar to the band.

Band Photo Shoot from Thenz801

This is the contact sheet for the images that we took during our photo shoot.

Our group also booked the equipment and the room needed for the photoshoot. Here is the screen shot of the confirmation of both the room, lighting and camera equipment.

Flames of Phoenix Digpak Layout

In this post, I used found images on the internet and my own sketches to create the layout for the digipak I want for my artist. The digipak is very important to present the star image and this digipak's genre is rock/alternative rock and indie, similar to band Paramore, Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance. I took inspiration from these three bands to create the digipak and star image for the band.

Just like the advert, the colour schemes would be black, white and red, asserting strength and masculinity. I will be including wide shots to long shots, close up to extremely close up shots in the digipak, in which the audience can get exclusive photos to create excitement within the consumers/buyers.

Flames of Phoenix Album Advert Layout

In this post, I present my layout for the album advert of the band Flames of Phoenix. I got the inspiration from Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns album advert and they explored mutation with the effects of nuclear war. In my case, I incorporated the concept of "mutation" which is why the album title is "Metanoia" which means change. This also relates to the theme of the music video we created "Monster" and how the main protagonist transforms into a vampire.

The colour scheme varies from red, black and white. In the right hand side of the advert, the black and white will contrast the red, making the red eyes and blood stand out.
The camera angle would be in a close up shot to mid shot to create a connection with the audience. As the theme is dark and Gothic, some audiences might not be able to relate, which is why the close up shot will establish the connection between range of audiences.

Logo Design Poll Results

I have used the website Survey Monkey to create a poll for my audience. I asked the audience which logo design to use for my artist "Flames of Phoenix".

As we can see from the results, the logo design that won by landslide is Design One with the Dragon design for the initials. I will use this font and logo for my band name as the audience found this more appealing and enticing for them.

Logo Designs

In this post, I will be presenting my different ideas for the logos of my artist. I also will be holding a poll so that my audience can find out what they like the most.

Design 1:

Design 1 is inspired by the original artist Imagine Dragons so I added a Dragon to the font, which relates to the mythical fire bird, the Phoenix.

Design 2:

I got this design inspiration from the Breakerz' Rusty Hearts, one of our references of our music video.

Music Video [Draft 3]

This is the third draft of our music video. We have improved our second draft and made amendments based on the audience feedback. We re-shot the band scenes and improved the portrait to make it look professional. Although, we have to make amendments for the audio as it needs a higher quality.

Album Advert Moodboard

I have explored various types of album adverts and band imagery in a form of a mood board, in order to inspire me and remind me of what I want my final album advert to look like. I also explored the styles of these different adverts, however, this style sparks my interests the most - having the contrast of dark and light, photo montages, collage and a typical rock/indie band.

The lighting used in these album adverts are in low key or in black & white. I want to incorporate this to my own album advert as the music video is has a very dark fantasy theme to it. I also like the contrasts of shadows and highlights - chiaroscuro as it creates a mysterious and dull vibe to the band imagery.

The themes and concepts of these digipaks are also closely link to my music video - love, heartbreak, metanoia and rebellion.
